What is Voice over Internet Protocol?

Over 2 decades ago the now fast growing trend of VoIP – Voice over Internet Protocol – was almost non-existent. However in recent years this new method of telecommunications has experienced significant growth.  Developed back in the 90’s primarily as a work around for cheap long distance calls it is rapidly becoming the go to solution for all businesses looking for a cheaper, more sustainable solution. 

VoIP works by transferring the voice data between 2 specific IP addresses. It does this by breaking down the signals into pieces of data small enough to be transmitted.  They then reform at the receiving end to the original state creating the whole voice.
